I do not remember exactly how this magical connection happened, but I do know what it did, and continues, to do for me.
.
It was maybe the latter part of 2020 when I shared with The Educator my interest to be a screenwriter.
That belief was sitting solidly in my head and demanded attention.
Then somewhere in mid-2021, I somehow connected with this Organization based in London and did 1 online workshop with them. The webinar was only for 2 hours and was no cost to me, thanks to some generous people called Donors.
I enjoyed the workshop and felt satisfaction-rays shining on my screenwriting dream. Plus, I liked the Employees in the organization too. It was an encouraging place, all thanks to the praiseworthy Employees who bolstered the unified goal of helping you, wherever you are.
The organization’s official communication “Here to support and platform writers.”
I signed up to do another workshop with them and the next thing I knew, I had joined a screenwriting course which ran for a year. I absolutely enjoyed the course and the way The Playwright, Author, and Screenwriter taught.
When the screenwriting course finished, I signed up to learn playwriting with The Playwright, Author, and Screenwriter for an additional year.
.
When I began this newsletter, I inadvertently wrote some parts like dialogue and stage instructions for a play “Enter…”
The irony was that I had no idea how ‘Plays’ would eventually resonate in my world.
I knew I wanted my newsletter to become a movie, but I had not considered ‘a Play’ too.
Would never have seen that coming.
WOW.
.
I started this newsletter in 2020. I ‘found’ The Playwright, Author, and Screenwriter in a screenwriting class, a complete year later (2021) and who would go on to be my writing teacher.
.
As the screenwriting and playwriting courses progressed, I did other webinars with the same organization, and I learnt from additional authors, publishers and ghostwriters.
I inhaled everything. It was the thirst I needed quenched. And I felt that I was home too.
I also signed up for other long-running workshops, one with The Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Contemporary Writer and another with The Poet.
From The Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Contemporary Writer, I learned how to build worlds and to maneuver within the publishing industry.
In a note to The Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Contemporary Writer I wrote,
“…. I want to personally say “thank you” and to let you know how much I am learning. I now officially have a “{her name} folder” reference guide and on my way to…”
(I really ended my note like that).
.
From The Poet I learnt to write for all the senses so the reader can absolutely feel everything. Then later, I learnt to use my words to write for the seasons, so the reader is walking beside me, parallel to my right shoulder, as we take in the elements of nature together.
The Poet taught me to dress-up my words. To remember to put an outfit on my words too.
In a note to The Poet, I wrote,
“…I will admit that poetry does not seem to be my calling because I am very direct and too blunt, but I do admire and learn from poets. I also confess that even though screenwriting and playwriting have my heart, your class is teaching me to stop a moment, better choose my words and take time to ‘dress them up.’ So I am learning, thank you.”
.
I am not sharing any part of the note I wrote to The Playwright, Author, and Screenwriter.
.
It was during the 2022 FIFA World Cup that I committed to attend 3 writing-based webinars, and I even asked questions during 2 of them.
For me to even attend writing webinars during a FIFA World Cup match, was a giant eye-opener, because I knew how much I valued that sport.
To choose anything over my love for soccer-football during The World Cup, made me understand how important writing is to me.
I admit that I did have the match silently and simultaneously playing on my cellphone next to my computer. But still.
